2009 Relay for Life a Huge Success!
Monday, May 11, 2009

This past Friday and Saturday, members of the Gladiators office staff headed out to the Gwinnett County Fair Grounds to participate in the 2009 Gwinnett Relay for Life. The Gladiators joined forces with Proof of the Pudding and the Gwinnett Center for the third year to comprise a Relay team. The team also raffled off a large selection of gift baskets (including a Gladiators one!) during the relay. Plus - there were other great prizes and a laser fast pitch game!

Jennifer Butera, team co-captain and Gwinnett Center Ticket Office Associate, was excited to announce, "Our team raised a little under $1,800.00 throughout the Friday night/Saturday morning event ALONE! Our raffle prizes were a hit and our Laser Fast-Pitch concession ALWAYS had a line of excited patrons to win the fastest pitch! We wanted to thank everyone for all of your help and support during this past weekend’s event at the Gwinnett Fairgrounds."

Christopher Leverett, Gladiators Ticket Account Executive, spent Friday afternoon and evening helping out the tent. "This was my third year participating in Gwinnett’s Relay for Life and I’m always amazed by the tremendous community response. It’s always such a fun and worthwhile event. Relay took on special meaning for me this year especially as I lost my grandma to bone cancer this past spring.”

Bob McCaffrey, Gladiators Group Sales Manager, was Co-Captain of the Gladiators/Proof/Gwinnett Center team. McCaffrey explained, "I have been Relaying since 2004, which was my first year with the Gladiators. At first I was just going to help the Gwinnett Center team and I really had no idea what Relay was or how big it was. Now six years later I have met many people fighting this disease or recovering from it and, I’m sad to say, lost a few from it. Relay has become a part of my yearly calendar and to say that I’m part of the largest Relay in the world is an honor. This year the Gladiators took it a step further and hosted the Relay kick off event during a Gladiators game in January and the folks at the American Cancer Society were great to work with."
