Gladiators Acquire Poli Thursday, September 02, 2010
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have acquired forward Chris Poli from the Trenton Devils in exchange for future considerations. Poli earned 39 points (13 goals, 26 assists) in 36 games for the Trenton Devils last season. He picked up 31 penalty minutes for the Devils during that span. Poli appeared in eight games for the Devils during the 2008-09 season and recorded six points (five goals, one assist) for Trenton.
The Medfield, Massachusetts, native joined the Devils during the 2007-08 season after he completed his senior season at Brown University. In 11 games with the Devils, Poli collected four goals and had 13 penalty minutes.
At Brown, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound forward ranked third on the team in assists with 12 in 2007-08, fourth in points in with 18 (six goals, 12 assists) and played in all 31 games. Poli finished his collegiate career with 49 points (17 goals, 32 assists) in 118 games with Brown University.

Restaurant Opens Friday Wednesday, September 01, 2010
Check out the Grand Opening of Gary’s Bistro on Friday, September 3rd at the Avenue at Webb Gin. Gary’s Bistro will be managed under the direction of Executive Chef and Operator, Tess Sanek, who studied Culinary Arts at Le Cordon Bleu. Sanek began her career in 2004 working in a small independent restaurant in Buckhead. In 2006, Sanek progressed to larger corporate kitchens which then lead to W Hotels in Atlanta and Chicago where the focus became banquets and catering. Gary’s Bistro is Sanek’s debut as Executive Chef and Operator.

Pre-Season Already Underway Tuesday, August 31, 2010
Gladiators training camp is a little over a month away and Coach Jeff Pyle is still securing players for the upcoming 2010-2011 season. NHL training camp gets underway with rookies reporting at most camps on September 13th with a handful of NHL clubs taking part in the annual Traverse City Prospect Development camp. Some hockey is already underway as junior teams have begun in the Canadian Hockey League. The QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) had their first preseason game on August 19th and saw Rouyn-Noranda take on Val-d’Or. The Western Hockey League gets underway with a slate of three pre-season games on Friday while the Ontario Hockey League also has three pre season games on the docket on Friday as well. The QMJHL regular season gets underway on September 9th. The OHL kicks off on September 23rd while the WHL begins on September 24th.
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with goaltender Billy Sauer for the 2010-2011 season. Under contract to the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League last year, Sauer saw action with four ECHL teams in the 2009-10 season. He began the year with the Charlotte Checkers and earned a 1-1-1 record in five games. He appeared in four games with Toledo and then won both games he started for the Las Vegas Wranglers. He concluded the season with the Alaska Aces and earned a 1.55 GAA and a .936 save percentage in five games.
Sauer went 5-7-1 in 15 games in the AHL with the Monsters last year. He posted a 3.09 GAA, had a .901 save percentage and also had an assist on February 6th against Rockford.
The Rochester, New York, native skated four seasons at the University of Michigan from 2005-2009. In 2007-08, he posted a 30-4-3 record, led the nation in wins and helped the Wolverines reach the NCAA Frozen Four. He set single-season school records for goals-against average with a 1.95 and save percentage with a .924. Sauer was also named to the NCAA East Regional All-Tournament team.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound netminder earned a 71-30-8 record with a 2.56 GAA and .908 save percentage in 114 career collegiate contests. He was a seventh-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft with the 201st overall selection.

Gladiators Bring Back Dan Sullivan Monday, August 23, 2010
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced Monday that they have agreed to terms with forward Dan Sullivan for the 2010-2011 season. “Sully has worked hard in all situations sacrificing to try to help the team as much as he can and I think he is learning more and more as he goes,” said Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle. “He thinks a lot of our organization and deserves a chance to prove he should be here. He knows there is no guarantee but he is healthy and in great shape and has looked good in the skating sessions I have watched. He brings an element we need. He hits, he fights and he can score.”
Sullivan returns to Gwinnett after skating with the Gladiators during each of the past two seasons. He finished with 33 points (15 goals, 18 assists) in 50 games last season. Sullivan also posted 72 penalty minutes during the year, his lowest season total in that category in a complete season in his professional career. During the 2008-09 season, Sullivan played in a career best 70 games for the Gladiators.
Prior to joining the Gwinnett, Sullivan played two seasons with the Pensacola Ice Pilots from 2006-2008 where he recorded 75 points (32 goals, 25 assists) in 117 game. His 245 penalty minutes ranked fourth overall in the ECHL in that category during the 2006-07 season.
The Weston, Ontario, native spent part of two seasons with Augusta from 2004-2006 earning a combined 53 points (23 goals, 30 assists) with the Lynx. Sullivan was acquired by Augusta from Louisiana during the 2004-05 season and he began the year in Reading before being traded to the IceGators. Sullivan finished the season with a combined 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 52 games with Augusta, Louisiana and Reading.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound forward began his professional career during the 2002-03 season with the Roanoke Express before being traded to the Baton Rouge Kingfish. During his rookie campaign with Roanoke and Baton Rouge, Sullivan recorded 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in 46 games.
Sullivan has also appeared in six American Hockey League games in his career. He had an assist in five AHL games with the Lowell Lock Monsters at the conclusion of his rookie season in 2002-03 and skated in one game with Lowell during the 2003-04 season but did not register a point.

Gladiators Trade Berti to Bakersfield Monday, August 23, 2010
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced on Monday that they have traded forward Adam Berti to the Bakersfield Condors in exchange for future considerations. Berti played with the Gladiators for the past two seasons. He served as team captain during parts of both seasons. Last year with the Gladiators, Berti collected a career best 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in 66 games.
The Oshawa, Ontario, native joined the Gladiators midway through the 2008-09 season following the suspension of operations of the Fresno Falcons. He earned 43 points (13 goals, 30 assists) in 68 games with Gwinnett and Fresno.
Berti made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in his second professional season in 2007-08 season. He did not register a point in two games with Chicago. He appeared in 4 games with Pensacola and had five points (two goals, three assists) and earned seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) with the Rockford IceHogs in 42 games during the season.
The 6-foot-3, 207-pound forward had 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 42 games with the Norfolk Admirals in his rookie season in 2006-07.
Berti was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 3rd round of the 2004 NHL entry draft with the 68th overall selection.

Nesbitt Returns to Gladiators Tuesday, August 17, 2010
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have agreed to terms with forward Derek Nesbitt for the 2010-2011 season. “Nezzy was an integral part of our Kelly Cup Finals team,” said Gladiators Head Coach Jeff Pyle. “He knows the systems already and he will bring offense and leadership to the team this season.”
Nesbitt returns to the Gladiators after having played with Gwinnett during the 2005-06 season and the 2007-08 season. He ranked third in scoring with 69 points (26 goals, 43 assists) during his rookie campaign with Gwinnett in 2005-06 and helped the Gladiators advance to the 2006 Kelly Cup Finals.
The Egmondville, Ontario, native helped the Idaho Steelheads capture the 2007 Kelly Cup Championship. He had 81 points with Idaho and led the team with 51 assists during the season. He ranked fourth in scoring on the Steelheads during the 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Nesbitt earned his first call up to the American Hockey League while with Gwinnett during the 2007-08 season. At the time of his recall, Nesbitt led the Gladiators in scoring with 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists) before joining the Rockford IceHogs. The 6-foot, 190-pound forward finished the season with Rockford and recorded 35 points (17 goals, 18 assists) in 46 regular season games and added six points (three goals, 3 assists) in 12 Calder Cup Playoff Games.
Nesbitt split time between AHL Rockford and Toledo last year. He had 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 37 games with Toledo while he notched five points (four goals, one assist) in 23 AHL games. He appeared in 54 combined AHL games with San Antonio and Manitoba during the 2008-09 season and finished the year with a combined 19 points (six goals, 13 points).
Prior to joining the Gladiators for his rookie campaign, Nesbitt skated four seasons at Ferris State University. He completed his collegiate career with 141 points (59 goals, 82 assists) in 154 career collegiate games. Nesbitt also skated in seven playoff games with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in 2005 following his senior season at Ferris State.

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have traded defenseman Jamie Fritsch to the Las Vegas Wranglers in exchange for future considerations. Fritsch completed his first professional season last year with the Gladiators. He collected five points (one goal, five assists) in 48 games last season and had 41 penalty minutes in the ECHL. The Odenton, Maryland, native also skated in two games in the American Hockey League last year with the Norfolk Admirals. Fritsch appeared in one game in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers following his final collegiate season at the University of New Hampshire in 2008-09. In four seasons at New Hampshire, Fritsch earned 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists) in 146 career collegiate games. Despite the near 100 degree temperatures, the hockey season is quickly approaching. Area youth hockey teams are having tryouts and are forming for the upcoming season at area rinks. Give your team a memory that will last a life time. The Gladiators are quickly filling up the Hockey Hot Shots spots for the upcoming season. The Gladiators Hockey Hot Shots program allows a youth hockey team the ability to skate out on the ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center prior to the Gladiators starting line ups are announced. In addition, Hot Shot teams also have the opportunity check out the pre game warm ups up close and personal right from the Gladiators players bench before the game.
