2009-10 ECHL American Conference Standing
Playoff March Notes
- The Gladiators have six regular season games remaining with a possible 12 points still to be earned.
- The Gladiators can earn a maximum point total of 79, which would not necessarily get them into the playoffs.
- Gwinnett climbed back into 10th place in the American Conference standings after earning four of a possible four points, while giving away none with two regulation wins over Trenton last weekend.
- The Gladiators are five points shy of eighth place Toledo and six short of seventh place Reading.
- The top team in each of the three divisions of the American Conference qualify for the playoffs, along with the next five best teams by point total.
- The 7th and 8th place spots in the American Conference stangings are the most conceivable playoff spots still available. Reading, in 7th place, has 73 points through 66 games, while Toledo, in 8th place, has 72 points through 66 games. Gwinnett currently sits in 10th place with 67 points through 66 games and are just one point shy of 9th place Wheeling, who have played two more games than the Gladiators.
- The Gladiators play all six of their final regular season games against teams currently in a playoff position.
- Currently, 85 points will guarantee a playoff spot, as Toledo, who rests in the 8th and final playoff spot, can only amass a possible 84.
- As of Friday morning, March 26th, a mere six points separate the five teams occupying the seventh through eleventh positions in the American Conference standings.
- Toledo, Reading, Gwinnett, Wheeling, and Trenton are all battling for the final two playoff spots, and each team has a ligitimate shot at earning one of those spots.
- The Johnstown Chiefs, currently in last place in the American Conference with 43 points, have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, as they can only earn a possible 53 total points, putting them far short of the current 8th place Toledo Walleye, who have 72 points.
- The South Carolina Stingrays, Cincinnati Cyclones, Charlotte Checkers, and Kalamazoo Wings are the first four teams in the American Conference to earn playoff berths this season. There are still 4 playoff spots available.
- A combination of eight points earned by Elmira or lost by Reading will give the Jackals the East Division title.
