Weekly Release for 3/3

DULUTH, Ga. - Coming off a terrific week against a couple teams ahead in the standings, the Gwinnett Gladiators (21-31-2-2) prepare for two games in Estero, Florida later this week against the Everblades. The Friday/Saturday match-ups will be the fourth and fifth straight games the two teams have played against each other.

Scouting the Opposition

- The Gladiators enter the week with a 5-3 record against the Everblades this season. In their five wins, the Gladiators are averaging 5.6 goals per game, while they are averaging just one goal per game in their three losses (two of which were shutouts).
- Captain Mathieu Roy continues to lead the way for the Blades offensively (17 G, 19 A, 35 GMS) although former NHLer Stefan Della Rovere was the thorn in Gwinnett’s side over the weekend, scoring in all three games against the Gladiators.
- Goaltending continues to be a concern for Florida. Last weekend against the Gladiators Trevor Cann allowed seven goals on just 44 shots (.841 save percentage) while Connor Knapp surrendered four goals on 29 shots (.862 save percentage).

Tuesday, February 25: Evansville 1 @ Gwinnett 4 - W
Wrapping up a season series with former head coach Jeff Pyle and the Evansville IceMen, the Gwinnett Gladiators impressed the Tuesday night home crowd at the Arena at Gwinnett Center with a 4-1 win. Marshall Everson, Bobby Hughes, Kurtis Bartliff, and Joey Haddad scored for the Gladiators while former Gladiator Antoine Corbin tallied the lone IceMen (24-18-3-6) goal.

Friday, February 28: Florida 2 @ Gwinnett 4 - W
With just five shots through two periods and trailing by two goals, the Gwinnett Gladiators mounted a wild comeback in the third, scoring four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Florida Everblades Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center to open Pink in the Rink Weekend. Dirk Southern scored two goals including the game-winner, while Joey Haddad (one goal, two assists) and Jerome Gauthier-Leduc (one goal, one assist) finished with multiple points. Mark Guggenberger picked up the win, making 26 saves in his Gwinnett debut while becoming the 12th goaltender to man the pipes for the Gladiators this season. He was acquired earlier in the day via a trade with the Alaska Aces for forward Ale Belzile.

Saturday, March 1: Florida 4 @ Gwinnett 5 - W
The Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Florida Everblades for the second straight night with a 5-4 result at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night. Three Gladiators had multiple points, with Bobby Hughes leading the way with two goals. It was Gwinnett’s third win in a row during the week and second straight game where the team came back from a deficit heading into the third to win.

Sunday, March 2: Florida 5 @ Gwinnett 3 - L
The Gwinnett Gladiators dug themselves out of a three-goal hole Sunday afternoon, but fell short against the Florida Everblades 5-3 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The loss snapped Gwinnett’s three-game winning streak while the Blades snapped their four-game losing streak to wrap up Pink in the Rink Weekend.

Glads Notes

Getting Offensive: The Gladiators offense came to life last week, averaging four goals per game in their four games. Gwinnett is also averaging 3.9 goals per game this season against the Florida Everblades, this week’s opponent.

Who’s Your Haddad(y): Gladiators Captain Joey Haddad went on a tear last week, scoring four goals and adding four assists in the team’s four games. He now has a goal in five straight games, a season-high scoring streak for a Gladiator.

Good for Guggs: Gladiators goaltender Mark Guggenberger was acquired via trade last Friday from Alaska, and in the first two days he was with Gwinnett he made quite the mark. The third-year pro posted a .921 save percentage in his first two starts with the Gladiators, en route to two wins. As a professional, Guggenberger has a record of 62-30-9.

Elite Everson: Rookie forward Marshall Everson was red hot in February. In 11 games last month he finished tied for the team lead with 10 points, scoring six goals to go with four assists and a +5 rating.

You Can Kount on Kwiet: Since being acquired by the Gladiators from the Komets in mid-December, defenseman Rob Kwiet has heavily factored into Gwinnett’s offense, especially as of late. Kwiet has a point in seven of his last eight games, and his 29 points on the season is tied for 10th best among defensemen in the ECHL.

Streaking Glads: Casey Pierro-Zabotel has two goals and eight assists in his last 11 games Dirk Southern has three goals and one assist in his last five games Defenseman Daniel Spivak has finished a game with a minus in only 11 of his 50 games played this season, and hasn’t gone below a minus-one. He is a +9 on the season.

Milestones: Daniel Spivak played in his 100th professional match Saturday night Dirk Southern is two assists away from 100 in the ECHL Rob Kwiet is three games away from 300 as a pro Max Legault is two games from 250 as a pro Joey Haddad is one goal from 50 as a Gladiator.
