Thursday, January 19, 2012

The Gwinnett Gladiators have acquired the rights to forward Evan Rankin from the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for forward Colin Vock and defenseman Dave Strathman. The transaction also completes the future considerations that brought the rights to forward Igor Gongalsky to the Gladiators.

Rankin is currently on recall to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. His rights were acquired by Utah from Toledo before he was dealt to the Gladiators. While on recall to the AHL, Rankin has earned 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 13 games with Rochester this season. With Toledo to begin the season, he earned 18 points (ten goals, eight assists) in 15 ECHL games this season.

The Portage, Michigan native split time between the AHL and the ECHL in each of the last two seasons. He earned two points (one goal, one assist) in 10 AHL games with Grand Rapids and had 55 points (23 goals, 32 assists) in 63 games with Toledo last season. He notched 57 points (32 goals, 25 assists) in 65 games with Toledo in 2009-10 while earning one goal in four AHL games with Manitoba that season. He began his professional career with Rio Grande of the CHL in 2008-09 where he notched 51 points (28 goals, 23 assists) in 64 games.

Vock heads to Utah after he earned 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 28 games this season with the Gladiators. He played four seasons at the University of Vermont from 2006-2010 where he earned 96 points (35 goals, 61 assists) in 144 career collegiate games.

Strathman was acquired by the Gladiators on November 10th from the Reading Royals in exchange for future considerations. In 18 games with the Gladiators, Strathman notched two goals and four assists for six points. He was scoreless in one game with Reading before joining Gwinnett.

Gwinnett returns to action on Friday, January 20th when they host the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
